Automotive Mechanic-Fleet Management

The City of Orlando is seeking mechanics to join their Fleet Management Division.

Starting Base Salary:  

  • Mechanic II – Automotive:$13.23 to 16.05 per hour (Grade: L03)
  • Mechanic III – Automotive:$14.774 to 18.00 per hour (Grade: L04)

PLUS $.30 per hour for each ASE certificate (up to six); PLUS $.30 per hour tool allowance; PLUS $.90 per hour when working second shift (2pm to 10:30pm).  

NATURE OF WORK:   Performs skilled mechanical work analyzing and diagnosing problems; inspecting, replacing and/or repairing defective parts, and performing preventative maintenance on City automobiles, tractors, mowers, trucks, street sweepers, equipment, fire trucks and equipment, police cars and/or motorcycles, and small engines; assigning, overseeing work and training of lower level mechanics. Perform a variety of tasks requiring specialized knowledge and skills. Work is performed under general supervision and is reviewed while in progress and upon completion for accuracy and completeness.  

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:  

MECHANIC II: High school graduate plus two years automotive mechanical experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must be able to read and interpret plans and technical bulletins. Required to own standard set of mechanic tools.  

MECHANIC III: High school graduate plus three years automotive mechanical experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must be able to read and interpret plans and technical bulletins. Required to own standard set of mechanic tools.  

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (for both MECHANIC II and MECHANIC III): Current training and/or experience in computer-based systems standard in modern automobiles. Experience with heavy trucks such as refuse trucks, dump trucks, and fire trucks and apparatus.  

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (for MECHANIC III):  Supervisory training. Current training and/or experience in computer-based systems standard in modern automobiles and heavy equipment. Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification(s). Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) certification.
