On Wed., Oct. 24th at 2 p.m., First Coast Technical College’s School of Culinary Arts will host a Crock Pot Cooking Class in conjunction with the Boys & Girls Club of St. Augustine. This program is being offered to promote healthy eating while instilling a life skill that holds both economic and time benefits. This slow cooking technique will foster fulfillment of a families basic needs, while giving young family members an opportunity to assist their own caregiver with household duties. Each B&G kid will leave the session with their own crock pot, recipe book and additional food items to make a meal at home, plus a full belly from sampling the fare. "I feel strongly that this program will foster a sense of self confidence in these young adults. We hope to inspire them to realize that regardless of their age, they can be a huge asset to their families" stated Chef David Bearl, Director of College Advancement with FCTC.
Community leaders and outreach agencies have also been invited to attend and duplicate this program for their clients. It is our goal to help educate, stamp out hunger and nourish our less fortunate population within Northeast Florida. We hope that this start up program will spread quickly and ultimately help us fight hunger together, one community at a time.
The crock pots were generously donated by Kiwanis Club of St. Augustine's noon group. The Boys & Girls Club is still seeking a food sponsor to underwrite the program’s costs. If interested please contact Jennifer Tesori, St. Augustine’s Community Liaison at (904) 669-0107 or email moc.liamgnull@irosetsj.
