LPN Job description
Summary: The LPN provides direct care to patients who require substance abuse or detoxification services. LPNs are responsible for medication administration and management, and monitor for signs and symptoms of withdrawal The LPN also assumes responsibility for leading and monitoring brief individual or group education offerings about detoxification techniques and services, and effective recovery methods. The LPN records the patient’s medical history and symptoms, and contributes to a plan of care for each individual patient.
Job Responsibilities
Conduct initial and daily evaluation for drug and alcohol addictive disorders
Provide nursing care for medical, psychiatry and addictive disorders in a detoxification program
Possess knowledge in medical and psychiatric medical medications and addictive drugs and medications
Able to work independently under clinical and medical director supervision
Able to assess patients for medical, psychiatric addictive disorders
Able to communicate with physicians
Willing to confront patients on addictive and personal behaviors
Able to provide education to patients in medical, psychiatric and drug and alcohol detoxification, assessment, continuing care, discharge
Able to assess for medical and psychiatric comorbidity, e.g. acute conditions as cardiac, suicidality, and chronic conditions such as diabetes mellitus, hypertension.
Able to supervise and collect specimens for drug toxicological testing
Enjoy working with a congenial and dedicated staff and patient population
Encourage and promote change in behavior, attitudes and health.
Logging of new medication and medication changes according to procedures

Hours:   36

Starting Pay:     Based upon experience

Minimum Requirements:
Licensed practical nurse Licensed in the state of Florida with a minimum of one year of experience
Maintains confidentiality of patients and family regarding disease/diagnosis, financial and other information obtained during the course of employment
CPR certification
Completion of HIV/AIDS training and non-Violent Aggression Control PER 65D-30 regulation

Other requirements:
1. Ability to multi-task efficiently and effectively.
2. Must be able to act regularly, calmly and effectively in a busy or stressful situation.
3. Ability to communicate effectively in English language in person, by phone and in writing.
4. Requires adherence to all policies and procedures, including but not limited to standards for safety, attendance, punctuality and personal appearance.

Physical requirements: Hearing adequate to perform job duties in person and over the telephone. Able to use stethoscope and respond to verbal questions. Speaking must be able to communicate clearly to patients in person and over the telephone. Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including visual examination of patient and reading information from printed sources and computer screens. Other: Requires frequent lifting and carrying items weighing up to 30 lbs unassisted, including assisting patients when required. Adequate physical ability including sufficient manual dexterity to perform the requisite hand movements, standing, walking, squatting and sitting, with some heavy lifting, pushing and pulling exerted regularly
