PEDIATRIC MEDICAL ASSISTANT
St. Augustine Pediatric Associates – Saint Johns, FL
SUMMARY
A Clinical Staff Member is a vital member of a medical practice that ensures all patients receive high quality, efficient care while ensuring patient’s confidentiality and privacy are maintained at all times. Clinical Staff provides administrative/clinical support as needed to multiple doctors in a very busy pediatric practice and must be able to perform under stress, be capable of dealing with periodic cyclical workload pressures, and work as a team player.
• Provides direct patient care daily and promotes patient care planning
• Collects vital signs, weight, chief complaint, reviewing all medications, confirming pharmacy use and reviewing medical history
• Schedule patient, assist in minor procedures, and perform lab testing and any other duties as needed to assist the providers
• Applicant must be able to perform a variety of duties, multi-task, and often change from one task to another without loss of efficiency or composure
Job position requires initiative, positive attitude, and self-motivated personality. Must possess the ability to prioritize tasks and organize workflow. The work environment is a health care facility and all staff members are required to meet OSHA required training policies/procedures.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO
• Collaborate with patients/families to develop individual care plans
• Ensure patients have completed needed health assessments
• Document the patient’s vital signs, chief complaint, any testing/lab results, and lists who is accompanying the patient and if they have any questions or concerns
• Review clinical alerts as well as outstanding orders tracking, tasks and referrals
• Asks patients if they have self-referred to a specialist or health care service and add provider to Care Team located in the medical record
• Reviews and documents all current medications and over the counter medications, herbal therapies, and supplements
• Reconcile medications and allergies; past medical, past surgical, family, and social history
• Prepare, administer, and document medications, Injectable medications and immunizations
• Schedule same day appointments, routine and urgent appointments as necessary
• Collaborate with providers to work patients into the schedule for urgent needs, medication refills, and clinical advice
• Responsible for notifying patients of test, radiology, and lab results over the phone under the instructions and orders of the providers and documents appropriately in the medical record
• Assists with coordinating all aspects of the patients’ care across all health care settings, including managing all transitions of care
• Maintain lab equipment and supply inventory
• Comply with necessary Department of Health rules and regulations (Lead Results and VFC)
• Assist with basic practice cleanliness, organization and maintenance
• Participates in the monthly PCMH staff meeting and daily huddle process to review daily schedules and patient needs for the day
• Coordinates appropriate care for patients including; labs, hospital admissions, and DME

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS
• M.A. Program Completion required
• Minimum of ONE YEAR relevant experience in a busy medical office setting
• Previous experience with eClinicalWorks preferred
• Experience with basic office equipment, (i.e., copier, scanner, fax, etc.)
• Knowledge of regulatory requirements (i.e. HIPAA, OSHA, PCI compliance)
• Knowledge of PCMH helpful, but not required
• Knowledge of medical terminology, coding and basic medical office accounting and data entry
• Proficient in the use of computers, ability to adapt to supporting software applications (i.e. EMR, Microsoft Office)
• Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions
• Ability to deal with parents, children, doctors and other staff in a friendly, efficient, personable manner
• Must be well organized and detail-oriented
• Ability to operate a multi-line telephone system while answering in a pleasant and helpful manner
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees and the public

COMPENSATION
Hourly salary is commensurate with experience, training, knowledge, skills and abilities.

Hours:  8:15am-5:15pm
Starting Pay:  Hourly salary is commensurate with experience, training, knowledge, skills and abilities.
