Job Description:
Assist the Adult Day Care Manager and/or acting Charge Nurse as directed by the Team Leader in the day-to-day operation of the Sunshine Center Program. Ensuring positive communication, a clear understanding, and flow of activities, and collaboration with each team member and volunteer to ensure a positive experience for all participants and their families.
Job Description
• The CNA is responsible for collaborating with the Team Leader, Nurse Manager or Charge Nurse to ensure that each participant receives quality supervised person-centered care as stated in their individual care plans.
• Is alert and attentive to participant’s needs in the areas of health, nutrition, and therapeutic programs in accordance with the provisions mandated by the State of Florida for Adult Day Care Centers.
• Attend morning team meetings with fellow team members, including volunteers, to ensure a clear understanding of each team member’s assignments, good team communication and collaboration. Ensure that each participant receives the necessary quality assistance and supervision possible as directed by the Team Leader, Adult Day Care Manager or Charge Nurse.
• Assist each team member or volunteer as needed.
• Observe each participant and immediately report any changes in their condition to the Adult Day Care Nurse Manager, or the charge Nurse on duty
• Assist with monitoring and recording of routine vital signs and weights each month and PRN if signs of illness are noted.
• Ensure each participant is receiving assistance as needed with personal care and incontinence care to avoid skin breakdown.
• Ensuring and maintaining clean bathrooms. and reporting to the Team Leader or charge nurse any maintenance of equipment required.
• Ensure the use of infection control/prevention techniques in the rendering of care;
• Assist with cutting up and serving daily diet orders efficiently to maintain food safety and temperature;
• Assist with daily meal service to ensure participants receive meals prescribed by their attending physician; assist with feeding as needed.
• Report inadequacies in dietary or fluid intake to the Team Leader and Adult Day Care Manager or Charge Nurse.
• Assist in the provision of emergency care; as well as monthly fire drills.
• Check participant clothing, incontinence and personal care supplies and obtain same to insure adequacy of amounts on hand.
• Assisting with the implementation of the daily activity calendar and activities as assigned.
• Act as a group leader or assistant for participants in the implementation of the above planned activities. Record the participant’s daily activities on the appropriate activity sheet.
• Assist with tidiness and cleanup of the facility and other duties requested by the Team Leader, Nurse Manager and/or Charge Nurse as needed.
• Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the organization’s policy
• Work under the direction of the Team Leader with a team that includes other program aides and volunteers assisting with daily activities and nursing care.
• Understand the needs of the elderly and the needs of those affected by Cognitive impairments
• Be sensitive to the needs of family caregivers
• Be available to work unscheduled days and hours
Minimum Requirements:
• Must pass Level II Background Screening.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Have a current Certificate of C.P.R. and First Aid training.
• Have passed the Florida Nurse Aid Competency Exam and hold a current certificate as a Florida Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in good standing on the Florida C.N.A. Registry with at least one year of experience in geriatric care in an acute, long-term, or home care setting.
• Provide a written physician statement within 45 days of employment to be in good health, including freedom from communicable disease, including tuberculosis in the communicable form.
• Must be knowledgeable and sensitive to the needs of the elderly, those affected by cognitive impairment, and their caregivers.
• Must have strong attention to detail, work well under pressure, and meet deadlines while maintaining a positive attitude.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of client information.
• Ability to work alone on own initiative, as well as work collaboratively with a small team.
• Able to effectively work with a diverse population and bring the best out in others;
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
• Must be able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines while maintaining a positive attitude.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize, and to carry out assignments to completion within the supervisor’s instruction parameters, recommended procedures and accepted practices.
• Affinity/empathy for older adults is a must.
• Works well with others, has strong customer service skills, and interpersonal skills.
• Is able to maintain a courteous, friendly, and positive attitude while working in a fast-paced environment with a diverse population.
• Is able to quickly resolve customer service issues with positive outcomes.
• Has experience working with those afflicted with brain disorders, including Alzheimer’s disease and Other related dementias, and their families.
• Has experience speaking to groups.
