Desktop Support Technician
Responsible for configuring, installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting Windows and Macintosh computers, printers, and audio-video equipment such as projectors and sound systems.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Configuration and installation of new computers, printers, and projectors.
- Installation and maintenance of software on PCs and Macs.
- User support as needed. This may include remote support or computer-related support at the users’ desks.
- Configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of various local and wide-area network areas as assigned.
- Assisting the System Administrator or Director of Infrastructure Services on technology and related issues.
- Specific administrative tasks, such as equipment and software inventories.
- Maintenance and troubleshooting of local and departmental printers.
- Configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting Voice over IP (VoIP) desk phones.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs such professional duties as may be assigned by the Director of Infrastructure Services.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum five years experience working with personal computer hardware and software
CHARACTERISTICS PREFERRED:
- Strong working knowledge of personal computer hardware, operating systems, and software
- Strong working knowledge of desktop and departmental printers
- Working knowledge of networks and network configurations
- Working knowledge of projectors
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to work without close supervision and make proper independent decisions
- Detail and multi-task-oriented
- The position involves a high degree of exposure, working sometimes with trustees, executive management, and dignitaries to deliver computer and audiovisual services; the ability to maintain confidentiality and exhibit good judgment is imperative to the success of this position
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
One or more of the following:
- A+ Certification
- Certified Technology Specialist (CTS)
- Network+ Certification
- Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP)
- Apple Certified Support Professional (ACSP)
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to maneuver around the College campus quickly; sometimes requires a considerable amount of walking
- Ability to lift and maneuver large equipment (50 – 75 pounds)
