JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Under the direction of the Assistant Manager, Facilities and Maintenance Technicians this position is responsible for assisting in the maintenance of all terminal facilities including rail switches, electrical, plumbing, welding, carpentry, painting, alarm and security systems, paving, dock fendering system, landscape and irrigation system maintenance.

  • Under minimal supervision performs routine manual duties involving a variety of light housekeeping tasks responsible for the cleanliness and appearance of facilities.
  • Maintains landscape in all areas by mowing, weeding, pruning, chemical spraying, repairs to terminal irrigation system and removal of litter throughout the terminal.
  • Assists with asphalt repairs, electrical repairs and carpentry, including form building.
  • Assists with repairs of projects consisting of concrete, wood, metal fabrication, asphalt, dock curbing and dock fender system, rail switch repairs and railroad signal crossings.
  • Assists with all types of plumbing installation, fire system and underground water line repair including well maintenance.   Assists in locating underground utilities.
  • Operates JAXPORT equipment to include fork lift, street sweeper, slope mower, dump truck, bush hog, backhoe, water truck, boat, mobile crane and computer operated sign machine including creating and installing metal and plastic signs on buildings and roadways.
  • Assists with repair work on office buildings, including remodeling, drop ceilings, sheet rock finishing, warehouses, roofs, siding and interiors.
  • Performs striping, sanding, priming and painting buildings and facilities maintenance assets.
  • Assists with maintenance of marine fender system, including installation of pad eyes, and fender hardware.
  • Operates power tools to include: drills, skill saw, pressure washer, table saw, and oxygen-acetylene torches.
  • Performs water pit inspections, cleaning and meter reading.
  • Maintains assigned equipment and work areas in a clean organized and professional manner.
  • Cleans and re-stock all restrooms, offices, crew facilities as directed by written facility maintenance procedures.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

 Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience:

  • One to three years’ in general maintenance required.
  • One year in construction and custodial services preferred.

 License/Certifications:  N/A

 Knowledge:

  • Mechanical aptitude required.

 Skills Required:

  • Ability to operate basic power tools and lawn equipment (i.e., drills, saws, mower, etc.)
  • Ability to adapt to frequent changes in work environment essential.

Travel:   May be required to travel locally to deliver and/or pick up supplies, parts and equipment.

 Other Requirements:

  • Valid driver license is required and must be maintained during employment.
  • Class B Florida CDL is required and must be maintained during employment.
  • This position is designated as safety sensitive and is subject to pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) during employment.

 PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Frequently remain in a stationary position.
  • Constantly move, traverse inside office or on JAXPORT property to accomplish job duties.
  • Constantly operate, use or handle equipment, tools, computers and other office machinery.
  • Frequently ascend, descend, work atop, traverse on ladders, equipment and buildings to perform maintenance and safety functions.  Heights up to 200 feet.
  • Frequently position self to move, to maintain or repair equipment on terminal or in office.
  • Constantly detect, determine, identify, recognize, observe, inspect to read and use computers.
  • Constantly detect, converse with, convey, exchange information with others via radio, telephone.  Ability to listen to equipment to troubleshoot
  • Continuously move, transport and position, material up to 50 pounds, occasionally up to 75 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards.  Majority of work performed outside or with exposure to risk.
