Minimum Qualifications

A.    Education and Experience:

Associate’s degree in information technology or related field, plus one (1) year PC troubleshooting and help desk support experience. Software skills in a Microsoft environment preferred.  A comparable amount of training, education, or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

B.    Certifications:

Valid driver’s license required, entry level certifications in computer systems/networking/security technologies a plus. Examples are certifications from Comptia, Google, Microsoft, Cisco, etc.

C.    Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

General knowledge of personal computing, PC troubleshooting, applications support. Basic understanding of TCP/IP, Wide Area Networks (WAN) and Local Area Networks (LAN) is helpful. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.  Must be able to work autonomously and/or as a team member.

General Description

This position works in conjunction with other IT Staff to ensure the continued operation of the City’s information technology systems. It provides hardware and software support and troubleshooting in a modern, secure environment. Work is performed during regular business hours; however, this position will be “on-call” as needed. This is a fast paced, complex, professional, and technical work environment. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Information Technology Director.

Essential Functions

1.     Provide help desk support, telephone system support, and other hardware and software support.

2.    Install new hardware and software.

3.    Support responsibilities will include printing, office productivity software, email, operating systems, and a wide variety of hardware and software.

4.    Participate in basic user technical training on hardware and software.

5.    Maintain notes, records, logs, and reports of work performed.

6.    Maintain instructional material for users and IT staff, including staff and vendor generated notes and manuals.

7.    Monitor performance of and maintain systems according to minimum requirements.

8.    Monitor, verify, and install software patches/updates. (Endpoint Security, WSUS, Backups, Virtualization)

9.    Attend training and stay current on information and technology affecting functional areas to foster innovation and ensure compliance.

10.    Attend and participate in department staff meetings.

11.    Performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Physical Skills

Acceptable eyesight, hearing (with/without correction), ability to communicate (orally and in writing), moderate lifting and carrying (up to 25 lbs.), reaching, pulling, pushing, walking, sitting, standing, kneeling, and bending.  Reasonable accommodation will be made for otherwise qualified individuals with a disability.
