ASSISTANT TEACHER
In accordance with the individual and collective needs of the ages of the population served by Collage Day School, the assistant teacher will develop appropriate curriculum-based activities and work daily to set curriculum-based goals, helping students meet their maximum potential.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Attitude:
Greets student and parent with respectful and welcoming attitude
- Articulates and interprets school philosophy
- Speaks in a tone of voice that relays respect for those you are speaking with
Communication with students and parents (as needed):
- Discusses daily expectations
- Reviews rules
- Reviews broad daily schedule and any changes occurring that day or week
- Reviews home notes or communication from parents and respond appropriately and in a timely manner
Teaching:
- Presents materials in an organized and concise manner, following lesson plans
- Provides remedial tasks for those who need additional support
- Provides enrichment for those who have mastered particular skills
Process Student Information:
- Records student tardy or absence
- Records student incidences; provides copies to the School Director
Professional Development/Coaching:
- Speaks with lead teacher about concerns or training/resources needed
- Aides in DCF inspections (prepares classrooms)
Communication:
- Communicates classroom needs to the lead teacher (child support, classroom materials, parent concerns).
- Support the lead teacher with conducting a classroom-based observation of students
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to assume a variety of postures (kneeling, squatting, crouching, sitting, standing) in the course of working with children with developmental disabilities and severe behavior problems.
- Must be able to lift and carry students in braces and other adaptive equipment.
- Must be able to receive detailed information through oral communication
- Must have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned.
- Must have manual dexterity sufficient to perform various keyboard functions.
- Must be physically present at the assigned job site.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
1. SUPERVISED BY: Head of School, Lead Teacher
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Individual must demonstrate competency across all age groups due to the diversity of the children and families served by Collage Day School
EDUCATION:
High School Diploma or higher required
DCF Certification started within 30 days of employment or completed 45 hours of DCF training
EXPERIENCE:
Experience in an early childhood education setting preferred.
RELATED TRAINING:
- Maintain up-to-date training/certification status in early childhood education, CPR and First Aid. Management and other school-provided in-service topics.
- Must have and maintain a basic knowledge of computer systems and applicable software.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Must be able to accept constructive feedback.
- Must be able to organize and manage time and manage multiple tasks.
- Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective communications and working relationships with other employees, students, and their families as well as the general public, across all age groups.
· Ability to demonstrate professional behavior by adhering to organizational policies and procedures, and assuming authority appropriately.
· Must maintain adequate personal grooming consistent with professional appearance.
· Must pursue education or training necessary to perform at the level of competence required to incorporate the hardware, software, technologies, and ideas relevant to specific job responsibilities.
